Christmas is Over!

26
Dec

Boxing DayPhew! Christmas is officially over. There's so much excitement and pressure put on Christmas from mid November - onwards. And now that it is over - I am feeling much relief.

The children loved their gifts from all the relatives and friends and Santa was very good to them this year (Santa seems to over do it every Christmas -even though he promises not to give too many toys) this year wasn't any different....

One of those Days

07
Dec

calendarEver have one of those "challenging" days when your health, your children and all the tiny details of your life, seem to have all piled together to make your life a little bit more difficult?

I'm feeling a bit low today, as I have laryngitis with an extremely sore throught and a terrible cold. And of course, I don't have a lot of energy - so the children some how have sensed this, and have decided to take full advantage....

Merry Chirstmas!

23
Dec

FiresideI can't believe that Christmas is almost upon us. The whole month of December has been a complete blur. From the gift buying, to the card writing to the baking and tree decorating - it all has passed by so quickly.

I really want to thank all my loyal readers and supporters this Christmas as I feel truly blessed to be able to do what I do - and to be a stay at home mom to my children...

Snowy Days

02
Dec

mittensThis weekend, the Lower Mainland was hit by a rather large snow fall. Yesterday, we stuck close to home and the kids just played in the snow in our backyard. And of course, we hung up our Christmas decorations in the evening.

Today, we ventured out a few blocks in our car to the local Mall to pick up some essentials. We also had a snow ball fight in the backyard and nestled in close to our fire place afterwards. Days like this make me think about life on the Prairies as a child and how snow was so common place (as it lasted for almost six months of the year) and how by tomorrow all of this snow here in White Rock, will be mostly melted away....

What to Expect - Guide to a Healthy Home

19
Dec

If you are a mom (or a soon to be mom) then you probably have either read or are in the process of reading one of Heidi Murkoff's "What to Expect" books. The book "What to Expect when you are Expecting" was my bible when I was pregnant with my son.

Now - Heidi and her "What to Expect" Foundation, has recently released a Guide to helping families keep their homes healthier. It's practical, and full of great ideas and tips.

Make the Most of Christmas

15
Dec

HouseThis week we went to Stanley Park to ride on the Christmas Train. It was raining and seemed like a really miserable day... but because we went during the week, and purchased tickets for the 4:30 train ride - it was actually pretty great.

There weren't any crowds, it was dark, and we were able to park right at the front entrance. And were able to walk right on to the train without any waiting around in line ups (as we have in the past)....yep....this year we finally learned how to do it right...

The Danger with Plastic Bottles

10
Dec

bottlesOk - I'm scared. It's all over the news, and it's become even more dangerous in my mind than the toy recalls. Why? Because the plastic they are referring to is not just limited to sport bottles or regular water bottles but sippy cups, children's drinking cups and even baby bottles.

I found a terrific article that I want to share with all moms about what to look for at the bottom of all your plastic bottles and cups. Each one has a number that is attributed to the type of plastic that is used in it - some are ok - and some are absolutely not ok - so if you are unsure - here is the info that can help you out....

Children Authors

Dave & BenThis past Thursday when I appeared on Breakfast Television, I had the pleasure of meeting a family, who possess the most amazing story. Their two sons, Ben and David, are children authors and were on BTV to discuss their books. Ben is thirteen and David is fifteen. And yes - both have written and illustrated their own books.

They are on a two year educational odyssey. Their mother home schools them and the family travels the world. Their books reflect their travels and experiences ...and the best part? Proceeds from both books will be going towards Hope for the Nations, Mountain View Conservation Society and the Raincoast Conservation Society.

Tree Time

08
Dec

Xmas treeToday was a fantastic day - as I was able to catch up on my sleep last night (still don't have a voice) but feel stronger today for sure. And yesterday my husband sent me flowers to cheer me up...awwwww.....he's so thoughtful.

And this morning - we went to pick out a Christmas tree. That's one of my favourite parts of Christmas. We all pile in to the car and sing Christmas songs all the way to the Tree Yard, which is about twenty minutes away from us. Of course, after twenty minutes of driving, usually I'm the only one left singing in the car....
