Birthday Bash

17
Jan

second birthdayIt's my daughter's second birthday today and I can't wait for her to see all the decorations and gifts that have been hidden for the past two weeks in our garage.

The theme of her birthday is "Princess", so everything had to be chosen with a princess on it. Although, to be honest, I think it was more me who chose the theme this year than her....

Happy 2008!

glassesWow - I can't believe its a new year already! Since Christmas, I have spent the days just relaxing and spending time with the family. We really didn't plan anything for New Year's Eve, other than just having some appies and drinks and having some fun with the children.

My son went to bed around 10:00 - he wasn't really interested in staying up until midnight to bang on the pots and pans...but my daughter was....she must have sensed something big was going to happen as she would not go down to bed...so after the strike of midnight, she helped us open the front door to welcome the New Year in and bang on the pots and pans...and then open the back door to let the old Year out...and I have to say...2007 was a good one...

Caution: Children at Work

14
Jan

cautionI recently wrote an article for Black Press on a very disturbing trend that is happening in BC. More and more children are working out in the workforce - because BC is one of  the five provinces that allow children between the ages of 12 -14 to work (with parental consent).

I noticed it a few weeks ago when I was in the grocery store - a boy walked by me and wasn't more than 12 or 13 years of age and he was an employee there. And then I saw another child there, and then another....

Learning Can Be Fun

CraniumCranium has developed two really interesting games specifically designed for Preschoolers. They've used the concept of Cranium and applied it to children- and have called it Cranium Bloom. The games they have developed are creative and fun.

Cranium believes in nurturing a child's natural genius - and each game helps your child discover, perform, create and connect with the world around them. And my son could harldly wait to start playing them...

Sip and Hit

StarbucksI should have known today was going to be "one of those days" for me when I poured my cream in to my first cup of coffee this morning, and it came out in lumps.

After I dropped my son off at Preschool I headed to the grocery store to do some shopping. On my way out with my daughter, I thought since I had my own coffee ruined this morning - I'd swing by Starbucks' drive-thu and pick up a coffee. But as I waited for my turn to order, I looked down at my phone and was about to call a friend, when I felt it....WHACK!...

The Long Awaited Day

23
Jan

KindergartenWell - the day that I knew was fast approaching, finally happened. This past Monday morning, I made the walk to my son's new elementary school to register him for kindergarten.

I thought I had given myself plenty of time (as I arrived one hour before the school opened) but I was very suprised with what I discovered when I arrived....

Back in the swing of things

RoutineWell - we are finally getting everyone back in to routine. My son went back to Preschool yesterday, my daughter is going to bed earlier - and I have returned to Survivor Bootcamp.

It feels good to be back to some seblance of normalcy for the family. With all the free time that we have had over the holidays and all the food that we have consumed (I put my seven pounds back on) - its a relief to have a schedule again - and my son feels the same way...

2008 Action Plan

03
Jan

So it's a new year with unlimited possibilities. The sky is the limit - including becoming a stay at home mom. I have been a successful stay at home mom for the last three years and it has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done for myself - and for my children.

I have found a way that allows me to be at home with my children and focus on them each day. I wake up with them, spend each day with them - watching them develop and grow in to amazing little people. So how did I do it?...
